Structure
Built chapter by chapter
Haven’s five study modules are the handbook’s five chapters, in the same order, and every one of the handbook’s 25 sections has a Haven lesson. If a topic is in the book, it’s in Haven.
How we check our content
The Life in the UK test is based on one book: Life in the United Kingdom: A Guide for New Residents. Here’s how we make sure Haven teaches what it says.
Structure
Haven’s five study modules are the handbook’s five chapters, in the same order, and every one of the handbook’s 25 sections has a Haven lesson. If a topic is in the book, it’s in Haven.
Our reference
We’ve built our own reference of everything the handbook expects you to know, taken from the third edition (2025 printing). Each fact is traced back to where it appears in the book, and went through a separate review before it was approved.
The reference was last verified in August 2026, and we update it whenever a new printing of the handbook changes something.
Then and now
The test asks about what’s in the handbook, even where things have changed since it was printed. So for the test, Haven teaches the handbook’s version.
Some things that affect your application aren’t in the book at all, like the test fee, how booking works and the English language requirement. For those we follow the official guidance on GOV.UK, and our guides link to the pages they rely on.
Your part
Every lesson, practice question and flashcard in Haven has a Report issue button (the small flag). Reports come straight to our team and we read every one. If something’s unclear or wrong, we fix it.
You can also email us at support@haven.study.
Independent
Haven is independent. We’re not part of, or approved by, the Home Office or the handbook’s publisher. The handbook is © Crown copyright and published by TSO, and the chapter and section titles on our site are its own.
You don’t need to buy the handbook to study with Haven. If you’d like a copy anyway, it’s available from TSO and most bookshops.
